Day 3 – Projects at Mullen Bible Camp & Serving Dinner in Rutherfordton

We spent today doing projects for our host site, Mullen Bible Camp. Then we served dinner at a church in Rutherfordton. Here are a few notable projects from the day:

Sledge-hammering blocks of cement to create rubble to be used as quasi gravel for the camp.

Cutting and splitting old fallen trees that had mostly rotted.

Weeding camp community garden beds.

Wiping down and cleaning the communal chapel where all the host groups before us so far this summer have also gathered.

Helping a nearby community church clean the fabric backs and seats of their community chairs.

One more quick note about the community meal. We were so grateful to the local church that folded us into their process and gave us the opportunity to serve. We noted the ways that the bustle of a church meal whether it be in Washington or North Carolina, is a similar experience. Like church yesterday, the kids did a wonderful job talking to strangers and meeting brothers and sisters in Christ from the other side of the country. And like they do at our congregational meals back home, they served food and washed dishes with great joy.

It might show in a switch towards a more simplified summary for the blog this evening, but it was a good hard day of work. AND we are warm and tired. Grateful for these youth as they are wiling to push out of the comfort zones socially and physically. An even more full work day is in store for tomorrow.
