Recap VBS: Exploring the Nature of God - St. Luke Lutheran Church

From July 13–16, St. Luke was filled with energy, laughter, and joyful shouts of “Wow God!” as 80 children gathered each day for Vacation Bible School. This year’s theme, Rainforest Falls – Exploring the Nature of God, invited children to discover who God is through Bible stories, music, games, crafts, science, and service.

Each day focused on a different truth about God:

God is our Creator
God knows everything
God is our Safe Place
God is Love

After each Bible point, the children enthusiastically responded with a loud “Wow God!” It was a wonderful reminder of the awe and excitement that comes from learning about God’s amazing love and care for us.

This incredible week would not have been possible without our amazing volunteers. More than 30 teen volunteers and 20 adult volunteers generously gave their time, talents, and hearts to make VBS a fun, safe, and faith-filled experience for every child. Their enthusiasm and servant hearts made a lasting impact on everyone who attended.

Our VBS families also embraced the opportunity to serve others through a cereal drive for the Mead Food Bank. Our goal was to collect 200 boxes of cereal, but thanks to the incredible generosity of our VBS families, we collected an amazing 291 boxes! To celebrate reaching our goal, the sixth graders earned the chance to pour slime over my head!

As I planned and prepared for VBS over the past several months, I was reminded that the success of this ministry began years ago. Former Kids’ Ministry Coordinator Stefanie Reinke built a Vacation Bible School ministry that extended far beyond the walls of St. Luke. She established a reputation in our community for a fun VBS experience for not only our St. Luke kids but as a great outreach program. Many of the children who once attended VBS now return as invaluable teen volunteers because they loved it so much.

I also want to recognize Jacque Larson, St. Luke’s Youth Ministry Coordinator. Through her leadership, she has fostered a spirit of service and discipleship in our youth. Our teen volunteers came ready to lead, encourage, and share their faith with the younger children. Such a blessing!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated packing paper and cardboard tubes, prayed, and supported Vacation Bible School this year. Together, we helped children grow in their faith, build lasting friendships, and discover the amazing nature of God.
