Day 5 - Meteora then back to Athens

Some of us got up and went for a hike at 6am and saw the sunrise over the beautiful rock formations of Meteora, listening to the church bells ring inviting the residents to worship on this Sunday morning. We all then gathered for breakfast before heading to the tops of those rock formations to see the awe-inspiring monasteries perched atop those rock pillars. We all marveled at the extraordinary feat of building those structures in the 1300s! This was probably the highlight of the trip for many, if not all, this far. You won’t see anything like this anywhere else in the world. After visiting 2 of the remaining 6 monasteries, we began the long bus ride back to Athens.
