Pastor’s Conference in Tucson

I have been in Tucson, Arizona this week at a pastor’s conference. It was good – as conferences go. It was the first time in 3 years we have been able to hold the conference, so it was really nice to reconnect with colleagues, and it was nice to get some sun. This conference is for the senior pastors of the largest congregations in the ELCA. The theme was on Leading through Anxious Times. It fit well with the studies I am doing during sabbatical – looking at how Dietrich Bonhoeffer led the Confessing Church movement in Germany before and during WWII. Right after Easter I spent two weeks at Priest Lake reading on Bonhoeffer, and upon my return from Tucson I will return to the lake for two weeks of reading Bonhoeffer. So far, sabbatical has been productive, restorative, and renewing.

Peace be with you all.
