Can you help us make Shelter Welcome Bags?

When families arrive at the Family Promise shelter, the newness of the shelter experience can be overwhelming, especially for children. Unfamiliar surroundings, uncertainty, and the stress of transition can leave kids feeling frightened or anxious in those first moments.

To help with this transition, the reception desk provides small Welcome Bags for children while their parents complete intake paperwork. These simple bags offer comfort and distraction during a difficult moment. A few small items can help calm a child’s fears and communicate something powerful: you are safe, you are welcome, and you are cared for.

You are invited to help assemble a few of these Welcome Bags for the shelter’s supply. By contributing, you help create a small but meaningful moment of reassurance for a child who may be entering a challenging season.

To participate, sign up and take a supply list from the Family Promise side of the Info Tower in the Fellowship Hall. Once assembled, the bags will be collected and distributed through the shelter.

This is a simple way you can extend Christ’s welcome and care to families in our community who need it most.

For questions, contact Stefanie Reinke, St. Luke’s liaison to Family Promise.
