Today was mostly a travel day by bus from Petra to Amman. We’re nearing the end of our journey, but along the way we saw two sites important to the Judeo-Christian faith. First we stopped at Madaba where there is a 5th Century mosaic on the floor of what is today a Greek Orthodox Church that is a large map of the holy land. This was a stop for Christian pilgrims coming from the east in antiquity. Not far away was the destination place for pilgrims: Mt. Nebo where Moses looks across the Dead Sea and Jordan River basin but then dies. It was too hazy today to see across, but stunning nonetheless. We had lunch near by we had lunch and after our visit we stopped at a mosaic factory where some shopped for beautiful mosaics hand made by the locals. Finally we arrived at our hotel in Amman where we will spend the next two nights before returning home. First, however, we will visit the Dead Sea tomorrow to “swim” (float) in the Dead Sea. The adventures abound.
