Day 6

This morning, we left Florence and departed for a 1.5 hr. bus ride to Siena. We had a two-hour walking tour of Siena ending in their beautiful cathedral. We then had 2.5 hours to explore, have lunch, find gelato, and shop before meeting up to walk back to the bus. The center of Siena is the famous Piazza del Campo which they had just set up for their annual horse race which will be on July 2nd. It was kind of fun to see it set up for that. Siena is such a unique, beautiful and interesting place that it would have been nice to have more time to explore, but we took off for our next stay (for the next few days), which is a Tuscan Villa about a ½ hour away. It is incredible! Gorgeous! Serene! “Pinch me, I can’t believe I’m here,” kind of place. Right away some of us swam before a thunderstorm rolled through. Then we sat under huge umbrellas having drinks and visiting until the storm passed. It’s been a wonderful day.
